Builder Highlight: Four Twelve Roofing

It’s always a privilege to collaborate with talented builders making their mark on the Baltimore and DC areas. For this builder highlight, we spoke with Sam Frank, Co-Owner of Four Twelve Roofing about their growth across Baltimore.

About Four Twelve Roofing

Founded in 2013, Four Twelve provides roofing, decking, and exterior remodeling services to clients across the Baltimore metro area. Initially, Four Twelve began with fix-and-flip remodeling services. However, during this early process, the Four Twelve team identified a need for quality roofing services across Baltimore and pivoted their focus to specialize in roofing and exterior remodeling. They have experienced exponential growth in the last few years, identified as the fastest growing roofing company in the country and the 122nd fastest-growing company overall on the 2020 Inc. 5000 list. Their growth was also celebrated with the top rank on the 2020 Baltimore Business Journal Fast 50.

Project Focus

Within the roofing space, Four Twelve has carved out a focus on flat roofing projects. Baltimore is a city largely made up of rowhomes, and due to their structure, older flat roofs can present many difficulties for homeowners. Four Twelve has built up an expert team that can handle flat roofing projects of any capacity, from narrow single h0mes to commercial-scale projects.

In the realm of exterior remodeling, Four Twelve is well-known for its creative and efficient deck-building services across the city. National Lumber works with Four Twelve to provide the decking materials they need to complete beautiful, thoughtfully-designed decks.

The Value of a Deck in Baltimore City

Sam Frank discussed with us the value homeowners across Baltimore place on decks, and in particular rooftop decks. He expressed that there is a certain sentimentality attached to adding a rooftop deck onto a home, allowing residents to take in views of the city and create an outdoor space in areas of the city where yard space is not common. Additionally, it lends extra livable and entertaining space to narrow rowhomes that may have limited options.

Product Selection

Four Twelve works with two primary types of decking materials, composite decks, and pressure-treated wood decks. Sam identified several differences between the two decking types. Composite comes at a higher price-point than pressure-treated but requires little to no maintenance over time. When building composite decks, Four Twelve utilizes the fantastic composite decking products provided by manufacturers like Fiberon and Wolf Home Products.

Work with National Lumber

Sam Frank stated that it can be difficult at times to find the right supplier that provides excellent customer service and communication in addition to delivering a wide selection of materials on time to job sites. However, he believes the National Lumber team is able to provide all of those aspects in a way the Four Twelve team hasn’t found with other suppliers. He recognizes that this dedication to quality funnels through the level of service the Four Twelve team is able to deliver to their clients. Sam also noted the NL team’s flexibility in being able to provide the materials needed to build fantastic decks, whether it’s top-tier composite products or great lumber for pressure-treated builds.

Outstanding Roofing with Excellent Materials

We’d like to thank Sam Frank for taking the time to speak with us. We’re proud to work with a great team like Four Twelve as they continue to grow and build.
